I’m a sucker for stories about alternate universes. You know, the tales that play out in a world that is just like ours, only something ‘different’ happened in history that set our society off in another direction.
Alternate universes with “what if’s” such as – having a female president, treating people of all races with respect and dignity, or not having to wear a hazmat suit for a quick trip to the bodega. And, my favorite, the one where everyone has a Christmas morning-like story about their first trip on an AIRSHIP.
Yep, it’s a world where everyone remembers taking the long elevator ride to the top of the Empire State Building and rushing to the window to see one of these giant magical machines elegantly nestle themselves into the observation deck’s docking bay. Then, after a seemingly eternal wait, got to hand their ticket to the conductor, walk across the gang plank and board the luxurious passenger compartment.
And finally, after finding their seat, staring out the window as the beast released it’s mooring clamps, and…they were floating through the air!
You know, stories about those kinds of universes.
So my offering for this sad first Monday in June is the soundtrack to this magical memory that never was (or was it?).
First time on the airship? Welcome.
